My interest lies deep in music. Although I don’t dream of becoming a musician, I have been keen to learn about singing and music production ever since childhood.
Following my interests, I browsed through their courses in the music categories and took up the course by Usher –the art of performance. I have been following Usher for years, and seeing him teaching his skills to other people caught my attention.
The video lessons were divided into 16 videos or parts ranging from 5 minutes to 12 minutes per video. In the first lesson, Usher introduces his MasterClass and takes you on a journey explaining what he will teach and how he will take things further.
"Success is about dedication. You may not be where you want to be or do what you want to do when you're on the journey. But you've got to be willing to have vision and foresight that leads you to an incredible end." - Usher
The course started with Usher explaining how to grow your audience and how you can use the power of social media. He pushes you towards the first step and leaves by giving your first assignment.
As the course proceeds ahead, he talks about gathering inspiration, applying the inspiration, how to expand your singing range, how to focus on the dancing while singing your best notes, how to attract an audience, and more.
I liked this course because it also focused on the effects of everything on your mental health and pushes you to move ahead despite the obstacles and hardships on your way.
In between the courses, you also get assignments that are enjoyable to do. These assignments help you in implementing things that you learn while doing the course.
Additionally, you can keep track of multiple courses in your profile section, making it easier to understand which course is pending and which course is completed.

About The MasterClass App
If you are someone who doesn’t like to keep up with the course online, the MasterClass app is the most convenient for you. The app is convenient and extremely easy to use. The app can be downloaded on iOS and Android. Moreover, it also works seamlessly on Apple TV.
Another benefit of the app is that you can manually manage the speed of the tutorials. For instance, you can slow down the video speed or increase the speed as per your convenience, and it also comes with the support for subtitles and closed captions.
Furthermore, when you learn through the MasterClass app, you can decide whether you want the class in audio format or video format. The app automatically instructs you about whether the class is best suitable in audio or video format.
For example, if the instructor is demonstrating something in front of the camera, you can turn on the video class. Similarly, when the instructor is simply talking about the class, you can turn the class into an audio format while using another application.
Based on the course you are doing, the app also brings the best course in the recommended section on your homepage. I enjoyed the app better than the actual website as it was convenient while learning the lessons.
Pricing is one of the most crucial aspects when picking the right course for yourself. Especially when it comes to online learning, you have to be careful whether the price is worth paying for.’

Pros and Cons of MasterClass
Every course comes with its advantages and downsides, no matter how expensive or good they claim to be. The same goes for MasterClass. In general, MasterClass comes with its pros and cons.
But, how terrible are the cons? Let’s take a look!
- It offers courses from experts in every niche. All the instructors talk about the niche based on their years of experience and guide you to exile in the field.
- All the videos are recorded in high quality and exceptional audio quality.
- Every month MasterClass adds new courses and materials. Every month I get excited to watch which celebrities are appearing on MasterClass with their courses.
- Each course is designed uniquely and varies when it comes to teaching methods. For instance, some courses come with fictional case studies (Margaret Atwood) while some include character case studies (for example, Dan Brown).
- Another best part about MasterClass is that the course is affordable. For example, instead of spending hundreds of dollars separately on learning a single course, you can learn unlimited skills with its annual membership plan.
- Lastly, the MasterClass app is something that you will love, especially for its ease of use. The design of the app is top-notch, and you can enjoy your favorite class while eating your favorite food on the couch.
- There are a limited number of courses compared to other online learning platforms. Although the courses provide in-depth courses, the number of courses offered may be less for some people.
- Since the course is online and lessons are pre-recorded, you won’t get one-on-one feedback. With online courses, this issue is common, but when it comes to MasterClass, I feel they should allow you to communicate with the instructors in case you have any doubts.
MasterClass: Is it different from other platforms?
MasterClass is different from other learning platforms online. You must be wondering how can I say this with complete confidence?
Well, the reason I stand by the statement above is because of their unique features, which I did not see in other online learning platforms. What sets up MasterClass apart from others is its instructors.
They bring out the best of the world’s people to teach you everything. Additionally, they have spent significant time evaluating the courses and forming the course structure.
When I got to know about the MasterClass, my mind was literally blown away.
For example, when you check the cooking classes, you will see that everything is taught from the basics. You can learn about the ingredients, but how will you cook if you do not know the tools?
Each instructor spends quality time laying out every detail you need to know in that field. Secondly, the video quality of the lessons is extremely high. To be fair, they have one of the best video quality lessons available.
While going through the courses, you will notice that MasterClass has spent major time editing and enhancing each lesson so that you do not miss out on anything. Every video comes with proper lighting, audio quality, and video quality.
The best example of this is when you check their music Masterclasses. When Deadmau5 or Armin explains each chord or instrument, you can hear the voice despite them talking through the mic.
Third, they have a broad list of courses and niches. They have categorised courses based on niches and come with an intuitive interface. Additionally, you can check their ‘coming soon section to see which courses are rolling out for the month.
Is MasterClass worth paying for?
After you have read everything till now, the last question that you must be having right now is “Is MasterClass worth paying for?”
After spending years of online and offline learning, I can confidently say that there is no platform like MasterClass.
The MasterClass is worth paying for beginners and creative people. Additionally, MasterClass is worth paying if you are on a strict budget.
If you are planning to do multiple courses from MasterClass, the annual membership is ideal for you. Although it is an annual plan, you can enjoy unlimited courses for a year at affordable pricing.
After taking MasterClass for three straight years I would just say- Go For It.
MasterClass is useful for beginners who are thinking of starting their career in a specific field or whether you already have experience and looking to brush up your skills using the skills of experts from around the world.
Each course comes with a separate workbook and quality video lessons. So, whether you are a chef or you are interested in music, you can select any course from MasterClass.
However, if you are still confused, you can select one course from MasterClass and see if it’s right for you. If you are not satisfied with the course, you can ask for a refund within 30 days.
