- Between 2004 and 2021, Purdue University, the University of California at Los Angeles, and Arizona State University collectively enrolled approximately 140,000 foreign students.
- While the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor has 116,456 international students enrolled, Boston University has 121,276 international students, placing the two universities close to the bottom of the list.

- With 70,223 students enrolled, Texas ranks third among states in the US for the number of international students.
- There are 71,026 foreign students studying in Massachusetts.

- Between SYs 2018-19 and 2019-20, only two fields of study saw an increase in their overall international enrollment: math and computer science (up 2%), and fine and applied arts (up 2% and 1%).
- The remaining fields either experienced a decrease in the number of international students enrolled or maintained their level. The greatest decline was in education (6 percent).
- Students from various nations frequently select various majors. For instance, in SY 2019–20, more students from Iran (80%), India (78%), and Nepal (70%) majored in STEM fields than students from Japan (18%), the UK (23%), or Germany (23%).

Number Of International Students In The US: Degree-wise
- According to the different degree types, different categories of international students studied in the US between 2004 and 2021. These 4,193,277 foreign students have enrolled in doctoral programs in the US.
- This indicates that Ph.D. candidates represent the majority of the enrollment of international students.
- In the US, there are 942,602 foreign students enrolled in master’s programs.
- In the US, there are 843,102 foreign students enrolled in Associate degree programs.

- In the US, 222,322 foreigners were enrolled in bachelor’s programs. In comparison to the other categories, this one has the lowest number.

- The third-highest category for international student enrollment, associate degrees have seen a steady rate of enrollment of 40,000–50,000 students every year, with the exception of 2020–2021 (the COVID-19 pandemic played a major role).
- Up until 2011, when enrollment increased, the number of bachelor’s degree holders stayed at about 10,000.
- Between 2003 and 2021, there was a significant increase in enrollment in doctoral programs. with numbers increasing to over 300,000 starting in 2015. This demonstrates that it is the US degree with the highest enrollment rate for international students.
- The second-highest category for international student enrollment in the US is master’s degrees.
- Over time, numbers have slowly but steadily increased. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the numbers significantly decreased from 2020 to 2021.

Impact of COVID-19 on International College Student Enrollment
COVID-19 has hugely impacted the enrollment of International students who are studying in the US.
62. According to the 2022 report, the overall international student enrollment dropped 15% from the previous year, i.e., before the COVID-19 pandemic. This is considered the largest dip ever.
